TWO AUTO PEN CARDS FROM
FORMER PRIME MINISTER JOHN MAJOR
Item 2058 -
These two cards are from former Prime Minister John Major. The
man who ended up at 10 Downing St. had humble beginnings on Britains
skid row. He quit school at 16 and worked in various manual jobs.
Major finally landed a stable job at Standard Chartered Bank in
1965 and rose rapidly to be the top aide to the chairman. He entered
politics in 1968, winning a local election in London. In 1979,
the same year that Margaret Thatcher came to power, Major won
a Conservative seat in Parliament. When Thatchers own Conservative
Party toppled her in 1990, Major was waiting in the wings. At
47, he became Britains youngest prime minister this century.
The Rt. Hon John Major is still in parliament. He was re-elected
in his safe Huntingdon constituency near Cambridge. During her
reign Queen Elizabeth II has had 9 Prime Ministers and has seen
12 US presidents elected into office. The first card has a picture
of the front of "10 Downing Street". The second has
a picture of The Green Room in "10 Downing Street".
Neither card is dated.
