Item 3033 - This six page 36 year old letter written to a girlfriend of Charles, Janet Jenkins is dated March 23, 1976. He writes:
My Dear Janet,
Will you ever forgive me for taking so long to write to you after
that marvelous, but far
too sort reunion in December? Needless to say, I have been meaning
to write to you ever
since that evening you came to dinner, but stupidly, I never managed
it?
I am very sorry I have been so hopeless because it was particularly
enjoyable seeing
you so unexpectedly in London & marvelous to find you in such
good form- though the
form might have been a little better!
since I saw you I have been exhaustibly involved with learning
how to take command
of a ship & now I an trying to put all theory into practice
and drive the thing around the
sea. I have already been in command for 6 weeks -- which is a
frightening thought
because it means I am getting rapidly older!
What a pity you can't see my ship -- very different from an aircraft
carrier and much
less entertaining, and doesn't go to exciting places lime Montreal
where exciting ladies
live behind bushes in order to pounce on unsuspecting navel officers
...! Extraordinary to
think it's nearly a year ago already ...
When are you coming back to the UK again? Do make sure to let
me know this time
and don't take me by surprise when you've only got one day left
in London!
I do hope al is well in Montreal - are you ever going to be ready
for the Olympics? I do
hope there is something for Mama to open in July!
It really was such fun to see you in December - I only wish I
hadn't had to rush off to
catch a train & thereby ruin a gloriously cozy evening!
Much love, Charles

Item 3035 - This letter dated July 6, 1976 was sent by Prince Charles to one of his then girlfriends, Janet Jenkins of Montreal, Canada. It is written on Official stationary. Charles was serving on the HMS Bronington at the time. He writes:
My Dear Janet,
I have just heard you rang Navel offices the other day (at midnight)
and you were trying
to contact me. How desperate that I am stuck at sea continually
and simply cannot
communicate except by pigeon or smoke signal because I would love
to have talked to
you. I hear that you have just had your appendix out and are feeling
somewhat lonely! I
wish I could come roaring across the Atlantic to make you feel
less lonely-- I would bring
my ship, but it would take too long & my navigation is so
bad I would never find Canada!
However, I have a marvelous piece of news -- I have decided to
fly over to Montreal to
watch my sister in the Olympics for the weekend of the 24th &
25th July. I shall arrive on
the 24th & will stay in the Royal yacht in Montreal until
the evening of the 25th when I
will have to fly back to Scotland to see if all is well in this
ship. The most important
question is whether you will be in Montreal and whether I can
come and see you to make
you fell less lonely...?
I do hope you will be there because it would be glorious to have
a chance of being
alone with you for a moment.
There may be a possibility of coming to see you Friday evening
(23rd) after dinner I
particularly on the Saturday evening. I don't know what you think
but if you could bear to
see me I would have thought your apartment is the quietest place!
I f we went out
anywhere the press would be on it in a flash and that would be
misery.
I shall get navel office to ring you about all this as I have
to be at sea on a long exercise
until the 16th July. It will be something marvelous to look forward
to, as far as I am
concerned & I can't wait to see you again hopefully during
a good month!!!!!!
Much love with a big anti lonely hug from Charles

The top of the box has a silver motif with CD initials, Buckingham Palace and the wedding date, 29th July 1981. The lace insert which held the piece of cake is in nice condition with no tears. The person I purchased this box from actually said, "I was hungry one night and ate the cake. The historical significance was lost to him. There is a small gift card inside that reads, "With best wishes from Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales. It was a fairy tale without a happy ending. Item 3039 - This is a seven page, hand written 36 year old letter dated September 19, 1976 was from Prince Charles to a girlfriend, Janet Jenkins of Montreal, Canada while serving on the HMS Bronington. It comes with the original typed, addressed, postmarked envelope. All Charles letters are written on official royal stationary with a crest, coat of arms, palace or castle name, etc.
My Dearest
Janet,
It was really sad that you couldn't manage to come over last week.
I was so looking
forward to the possibility of seeing you, but I tried hard to
restrain my optimistic (can't
read) in case all my hopes were to be dashed -- and dashed they
were!
I do understand the problem you have in flying over here and with
the shop in
Montreal, but I can see that if & when you finally manage
to escape I will be thoroughly
in inaccessible and I shall never see you It would have been ideal
if you could come to
(can't read) or Sandringham the other day when I had 24 hours
off, because the necessary
arrangements were to (can't read) possible.
However if I let you know when I can see you, it might be easier
for you to plan a visit
here if you find it possible to get away. The best occasion, as
far as I am concerned, is
when I go to Sandringham in Norfolk, for three days from the evening
of Oct. 21st to the
evening of Sunday 24th Oct. I am going for two days shooting with
some friends so that
if you could bear the idea of perhaps camping out shooting and
putting up with some
dotty friend of mine -- that would be the only possible moment
when I could see you
properly. After those dates we are at sea almost permanently until
Dec. 15th when I
finally leave the ship and the active part of navel life. So there
you have the situation
------ do with it what you will my dear Miss J!
Communications is a major problem at the moment because I am involved
in a two
week (can't read) exercise off the East coast of England and it
is impossible to get in
touch with anyone., let alone find out what is happening in the
world! The tedium of this
exercise is mind boggling, so by the time you next see me, I shall
be dribbling at the
mouth and surrounded by gentlemen in white coats!1
That was the reason why I was looking forward to seeing you ---
so that I could remain
sane! Hev ho
I must go and see what fresh hazard is about to assail us on the
high sea and will wait
expectantly, to hear something form you. The last thing I want
to do is mess up your
plans in Canada, so please, I will absolutely understand if you
can't escape - although I
shall unavoidably and unsurprisingly be rather sad ...........
Much maritime love from Charles
I wonder if these letters were written at the same time he was seeing Camilla, "the so-called great love of his life". $7,500.00 plus postage Order

It was marvelous to hear your voice again the other day from the

being unable to see you. I knew it would happen (see my old letter)

back again.

Item 3043 - This 125 year old letter wasn't written by royalty but it is still one of my favorites. Henry F. Ponsonby 1825-1895, an English Major General who was private secretary & confidante to Queen Victoria. This one page letter dated Sept 2, 1887 written from Balmoral on official stationary is absolutely marvelous.

Item 3044 - This 70 year old four page letter written to Lady Salisbury is dated July 27, 1942 is wonderful in that the Queen Mother writes about what one should expect when becoming engaged and thinking of marrying. The letter gives an insight to the morals of the time and the Queen Mother's own values and beliefs. It is hand written on official Buckingham Palace stationary. She writes,
Dearest Lady
Salisbury,
It was so kind of you to write about Katherine's engagement, and
I would like to send
my very best wishes for great happiness to them both.
It is very hard for Maria being so far away, but it must be a
great joy to fee that her
daughter is going to marry someone she has known for three years.
It is so important to have known each other before getting engaged,
& each other's
parents as well!
If you would be so kind, the next time you write to Maria, do
ask her to let me know
her feelings, and some impressions of her great new work. I am
quite certain that she will
do tremendous good, for she has such a wonderful character , &
strength of mind &
nobility, that anyone near her must feel the better for it.
I am sorry about Betty's illness - it must have been a great anxiety,
& I do wish with all
my heart that she will be better soon.
With my love, and with my heartfelt wishes for a truly united
& happy life for Katherine
and Maurice Macmillan,
I am yours very affee, Elizabeth R
