Item 3031 - This box was given to those who were lucky enough to attend the wedding of Charles and Diana in 1981. It is 27 years old. It was the wedding of the century! The top of the box has a silver motif with CD initials, Buckingham Palace and the wedding date, 29th July 1981. The lace insert which held the piece of cake is in nice condition with no tears. The person I purchased this box from actually said, "I was hungry one night and ate the cake. The historical significance was lost to him. There is a small gift card inside that reads, "With best wishes from Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales. It was a fairy tale without a happy ending. Item 3032 - This is a seven page, 32 year old, hand written letter dated September 19, 1976 was from Prince Charles to a girlfriend, Janet Jenkins of Montreal, Canada while serving on the HMS Bronington. It comes with the original typed, addressed, postmarked envelope. All Charles letters are written on official royal stationary with a crest, coat of arms, palace or castle name, etc. He writes about how desperate he is to see her, He writes, " I was so looking forward to the possibly of seeing you, but I tried hard to restrain my optimistic --in case all my hope were to be dashed and--- and dashed they were. " He states he wanted to see her so he could remain sane. All the letters from Charles to this lady are personal and romantic in nature. It is signed, "Much maritime love from Charles". Item 3034 - This is another letter written from Prince Charles to a girlfriend Janet Jenkins in 1976 while serving on the RMS Bronington. It is a one page, double sided letter dated November 2, 1976. Charles writes, " It was marvelous to hear your voice again the other day from the Ritz, how desperate being unable to see you." It is signed "All love and a vast hug, Charles". Item 3035 - This 121 year old letter wasn't written by royalty but it is still one of my favorites. Henry F. Ponsonby 1825-1895, an English Major General who was private secretary & confidante to Queen Victoria. This one page letter dated Sept 2, 1887 written from Balmoral on official stationary is absolutely marvelous. He writes, "Sir, In reply to your letter, I beg leave to inform you that the Queen does not give her autograph. Item 3036 - This four page 66 year old letter written to Lady Salisbury is dated July 27, 1942 is wonderful in that the Queen Mother writes about what one should expect when becoming engaged and thinking of marrying. The letter gives an insight to the morals of the time and the Queen Mother's own values and beliefs. It is hand written on official Buckingham Palace stationary. She writes, "it is so important to have known each other before getting engaged & each other's parents as well!" As well as being articulate, the Queen Mums hand writing goes back to another time when one was taught the art of proper letter writing. Her hand writing is lovely. Item 3037 - This 27 year old, hand written, one page, double sided letter to one of Diana's bridesmaids Sarah Jane Gaselee is dated September 8, 1981 not long after the most famous wedding of all time when they were both walking down the aisle in front of 2 billion people. Diana writes about having been swimming and when she was in school. She writes, "Please don't be too unhappy about going back. I wish sometimes that I was back at school & always I got tearful when the beginning started, but then enjoyed it." She has signed the letter, "Lots & Lots of love, Diana". Item 3038 - This box has survived for 85 years. It once held a piece of wedding cake from the April 26, 1923 wedding of King George VI, grandson of Queen Victoria & Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon who became Queen Elizabeth and later, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. The 85 year old lace which held the cake is still in the box although torn. The box has a silver crown with the initials A and E and Buckingham Palace, 26th April 1923. Item 3040 - This is an eight page, 28 year old, hand written letter dated March 9, 1980 from Prince Charles to friends talks about his riding (steeplechase) for the first time at Lambourn. It is written on official Buckingham Palace stationary. He writes, " I think it really must be counted as one of the most exciting and rewarding things I have ever done in my life." He goes on for eight pages about the thrill between man & horse. The letter comes with original, hand written, postmarked envelope.
